![]() A: You zip up the Crystal Reports (rpt) files you want converted and then email or upload the zip file. We then convert the rpt files into rdl files and email them to you in a zip file. These RDL files can then be either uploaded into Reporting Services using the Report Manager or edited using Visual Studio.Net. We now offer FULL conversion services, as well as our 'legacy' Jump-Start conversions. Read more about this here. ![]() A: Assuming a standard report design, about 90% of the Crystal Reports design is converted as a part of our process. Field placement, typical field formatting, fonts, section height, suppressed sections, grouping, sorting and most special fields are all converted. The table links and record selection is converted to the RDL query. Parameters are also converted. Almost all formulas are converted. Formulas are moved and formatted on the new RDL. Almost all of the old Crystal Reports formula code is converted to VB.Net code (this is new as of May 2008). We do not convert 100% of the template. Do not expect this, and you will be very happy. We do not remove all of the work in converting a Crystal Reports template, but we do remove the majority of it. For most average reports, our Jump-Start conversion will work pretty much right "out-of-the-box". You will be amazed! We guarantee we can save you at least two hours of work converting from Crystal Reports to Reporting Services. ![]() A: Crosstab Objects, Charts, graphics (although we will create a placeholder), conditional formatting, and some embedded text objects are not converted. NOTE: If you still send us a report with crosstab objects or charts, you WILL be charged for the report conversion. You will not receive a credit back. ![]() A: We have a 10 report FULL conversion minimum. Also, there is a small environment setup fee for the work. After that, you will send us the reports along with your data environment or a way to access a data environment over the net. Lastly, we need parameter/testing criteria for each report. For example, a sales report might have a starting and ending date range, then a total number that the sales should add up to. If you want us to do some basic testing on the reports, this is mandatory. At the price we are doing the work at, we can not be expected to know your data and to come up with our own testing criteria. Just so we are crystal clear, I want to reiterate what our conversion service is. With RptToRdl.Com, we provide a simple, cost effective service to move reports from Crystal Reports to Reporting Services. We keep the price really low by just converting the report based on what you have programmed into the RPT file before. This is not new development. There is normally no need for meetings and generally no questions. If it's a working Crystal Reports template, we can generally get it up and going just like it was in Crystal Reports. Our service is no different than asking a computer store to replace a hard drive. You pay for the service, leave it with the company, and they return it to you fixed. That's exactly what we do. While we, Jeff-Net, do perform full blown multi-thousand dollar consulting projects, that's NOT what our conversion service is. I hope this helps clear up any questions. Read more about this here. ![]() A: No, we do not offer any discounts on the full conversions. That pricing is already very efficiently set. We just can't do what we do for any less. ![]() A: No, our conversions are VERY economically priced. We require payment up front. Please do not ask us to sign long consulting contracts to do our report conversions. We will sign an NDA for any work, but if you want long contracts to be signed, FedEx'd, signed again, etc, your project with us must be valued at at least $20,000 or more. If it is, we require 50% down, and the rest will be based on milestones of completion. If your project is valued at $50,000 or more, we will accept 10% down, and the rest will be based on milestones of completion. ![]() A: Since our services are so economically priced, we ask you for some flexibility in completing your conversions. If you have a deadline under 60 days for FULL conversions, you will need to pay an upcharge for expediting your conversions. The upcharge varies based on our current workload and your demands. ![]() A: Yes, we convert subreports, but we do not place them on the report. We will send them to you as a separate report (you can place them on the report template yourself or use them in other reports this way). ![]() A: Yes! Yes! Yes! Because you have to either finish the conversion or at least know how to deploy your reports to your server. We can not stress this enough. If you do not know Reporting Services, our conversion services will not do you very much good. If you do know Reporting Services, updating our partially converted templates will be a breeze and uploading our 100% converted templates will be super easy! ![]() A: No, what we deliver are pure, XML (RDL)-based templates. No custom DLLs. Just pure code. ![]() A: No, this is not a software product. We do the conversions for you as a service. You will find that our conversions are better than any software-based conversions. We produce a much better RDL than any software tool could ever do. ![]() A: We will do a Jump-Start conversion on one "test" report for you at no charge. This "test" report can have no more than one small subreport in it. To receive your one, free, test conversion, you must confirm to us that you have read EVERYTHING in this FAQ, that you understand everything in the FAQ, and that you are a skilled Reporting Services and .Net developer (if you are not, you are wasting time with our conversion service). YOU MUST KNOW REPORTING SERVICES. This conversion service is not a training tool. Send your test conversion to "info (at) rpttordl.com". NOTE: If you send us a report for a free conversion with charts and/or multiple sub-reports, it will be rejected, AND we will not do another free test conversion for you. ![]() A: Doing a FULL conversion is no simple task. We have to create a test environment with your data, convert your report(s), deploy them to our test server and test them. We get referrals from Microsoft to do conversions... how much more of a reference do you want??? :-) ![]() A: Our service is already priced at a bulk price, but if you have more than 100 reports for a Jump-Start conversion, we provide a 5% price break at 100 or more reports. It's an automatic price break, just order 100 or more conversions in the web store, and you will see the discounted price. ![]() A: Yes, we have expert consultants and partners available to assist with any of your reporting needs. We can even deploy your reports to your server. We are experts in .Net and Reporting Services. We can handle your project 100% from start to finish. ![]() A: Nothing is wrong with Crystal Reports. It's a great product! Jeff-Net consults, trains, and markets add-on tools for Crystal Reports. We LOVE Crystal Reports, but if you are committed to moving to Reporting Services, or your company is committed, we're experts with both products and we can help you.
